Policy Changes

Emergency Food Assistance Program

Additional funding is provided to greatly expand the capacity of the state's Emergency Food Assistance Program that supports over 500 hunger relief organizations working to reduce food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. (General Fund - State)

Transfer Fairs Account to GF-S

This item transfers $995,000 in the Fairs Account to the state general fund. There were a lower number of competitive events at Washington state fairgrounds in fiscal year 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Fair Account - Non-Appropriated)

ISO Certification

Accreditation is expected in government regulatory laboratories to ensure a standardized quality of work and to generate defensible data that drives compliance actions. International Organization of Standardization (ISO) accreditation is a prerequisite for WSDA programs to receive federal funding. The department needs additional funding to ensure laboratory quality assurance practices are followed. (General Fund - State)

Asian Giant Hornets

Funding is provided to support the department's efforts to eradicate Asian giant hornets, also known as murder hornets, discovered for the first time in North America earlier this year. (General Fund - State)

Japanese Beetles

Funding is provided to support the department's efforts to detect and eliminate the threat of invasive Japanese beetles, which damage turf, landscaping, and important agricultural crops such as tree fruit, grapes, and hops. (General Fund - State)

Gypsy Moths

Additional funding is provided to expand efforts to control three species of gypsy moths, which are damaging to several species of trees. (General Fund - Federal, General Fund - State)

Travel Savings
