Workforce Diversity

  • As of fiscal year 2020, percent Female is based on Gender Identity, which is a person’s innermost concept of self as male, female, a blend of both or neither (gender “X” or non-binary). How individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. A person’s gender identity can be the same or different from their sex assigned at birth. Female in prior fiscal years reflect the binary option previously labeled Gender.
  • X/Non-Binary is a new measure added in fiscal year 2020. This new measure is based on gender identity and provides the percent of the workforce that identifies as a gender that is not exclusively male or female.
  • LGBTQ+ is a new measure added in fiscal year 2020. This new measure is the percent of the workforce that identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community. LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning. The + allows space for other diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression groups.
  • Military Spouse is a new measure added in fiscal year 2020. This new measure is the percent of the workforce that is a military spouse or registered domestic partner of a military service member during the service member’s time of active, reserve, or National Guard duty.
  • Percentages for X/Non-Binary, LGBTQ+, and Military Spouse may not be a true reflection of the workforce until all agencies have had an opportunity to re-survey their employees or until employees have the ability to update their demographic information in the state’s employee self-service application – MyPortal – later in calendar year 2020.
  • New Hires and Turnover by the new X/Non-Binary, LGBTQ+, and Military Spouse measures will begin in fiscal year 2021. Female New Hire and Turnover percentages for fiscal year 2020 are based on the binary option previously labeled Gender. Female New Hire and Turnover percentages based on Gender Identity will begin in fiscal year 2021.
