Definition

Plans and directs the operation of a medium size reproduction section.

Distinguishing Characteristics

In order for a position to be allocated to this class, it must meet at least two of the following criteria: (1) directs the staff of a reproduction section that uses at least two items of printing equipment (lithographic press, systems duplicator, etc,); (2) manages a reproduction section with at least four subordinates, one of which must be an Offset Duplicator Operator 2 or higher; (3) coordinates the printing/duplicating for the Headquarters staff of an agency.

Typical Work

(The following are examples only. Other tasks of a similar level of difficulty and responsibility may be assigned. Also, performance of more difficult and responsible tasks may be required to aid in the development of the employee for future advancement.)

Directs the work of a staff engaged in reproduction work involving a variety of processes utilizing such equipment as copy cameras, vacuum frames, offset duplicating, diazo and blueprint machines;

Coordinates the work of photocopy and duplicating units; determines and advises on the best methods of reproduction to be employed; establishes schedules and sets priorities;

Instructs employees in the operation, adjustment and care of equipment; advises operators on unusual or difficult processes;

Operates all types of equipment to fill in as needed;

Orders supplies for the reproduction section; may have responsibilities for other support functions such as mail, stock room, etc.;

Acts for the supervisor in his/her absence;

Performs other work as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

Four years of experience in any combination of commercial or industrial photography, reprographics or lithography.

Two years of experience as an Offset Duplicator Operator 3. 

Note:  Education in commercial or industrial photography, reprographics or lithography may be substituted, year for year, for up to two years of qualifying experience.
