Definition

Leads assigned data control personnel and performs complex data control tasks.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general direction, leads assigned data control personnel and independently performs complex data control tasks such as assigning priorities for computer system schedules, analyzing data control resource requirements of jobs and systems, adjusting schedules to obtain optimum equipment and personnel utilization, analyzing job summary reports, determining corrective action and developing and adjusting master data control schedule.

Typical Work

Regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of employees; 

Analyzes, implements and maintains system documentation or data control procedures; 

Writes staging procedures and flow charts; 

Consults with Systems Analysts/Programmers and users during turnover of new systems to data control to review operating characteristics to determine system resource requirements and compliance with standards; 

Modifies job control language to accommodate requirements specific to the computer application being processed; 

Assists in defining and developing user documentation standards; 

Assists in maintaining the documentation library; 

May assist supervisor with performance evaluations; 

May perform the duties of IT - Data Processor 3; 

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  data processing equipment and methods of operation; scheduling, problem solving and quality assurance techniques; inventory control, buying practices and property accountability; applicable data processing systems, procedures and processes.   

Ability to:  plan, organize and direct data processing operations; plan and develop system methods, procedures and controls; train, supervise and direct work of data processing personnel; meet with department officials, systems specialists, vendor representatives and using clients; discuss, devise and implement operations solutions.

Desirable Qualifications

One year of full-time experience as a Information Technology - Data Processor 3

OR 

Equivalent education/experience.
