Definition

Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate career planning and placement services for students and alumni.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under administrative direction, coordinate the operation of career planning and placement services for students and alumni. Assist in the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures for career planning and placement. Provide individual and group advising.

Typical Work

Provide students, prospective students, and alumni career planning and placement assistance;

Provide career advising to students in the areas of interviewing skills and techniques, letter writing, resume preparation, and use of district recruiting information;

Work closely with department chairperson and faculty involved in preparation of graduating students by providing supply and demand information, salary, and other information related to employment trends;

Make presentations to student classes and student professional groups;

Contact employer representatives to solicit campus interview visits, job openings, brochures, and other information to assist students with their job search and to maintain public relations;

Maintain a system to inform graduating students and alumni of appropriate professional positions that are listed with the career planning and placement office;

Maintain records and prepare reports as required; monitor computerized student records;

Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in counseling or related field

Equivalent education/experience.
