ASSISTANT FACILITIES DESIGNER
Definition
Assist professional architects with technical detailing and field liaison work.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class relieve a professional architect of detailing and field work on assigned architecture projects. Incumbents prepare designs, working drawings, and cost estimates.
Typical Work
Obtain field measurements and prepare sketches, preliminary and final working drawings; perform calculations and make detailed technical descriptions including material to be used; write specifications;
Assist and coordinate with architectural, mechanical, and electrical designers in the preparation of drawings and specifications;
Confer with representatives of college departments regarding architectural work; assess existing conditions and scope of requested work to alter or improve buildings;
Advise clients on feasibility of projects in terms of architectural, technical, and aesthetic features, within a given cost;
Occasionally inspect jobs in progress and direct the work of drafting technicians;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
OR
Experience as an architect aide or equivalent may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Examination Requirements:
- A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
