- In 2004-05 Washington ranked 21st among the 50 states in total state and local taxes per capita.
- In 2003-04, Washington ranked first in per capita state and local sales tax collections among all states, highlighting Washington's heavy dependence on general and selective sales taxes in its tax structure.
- Of the thirteen western states, Washington ranked fifth in per capita state and local taxes in 2003-04. Wyoming, Hawaii, California, and Alaska had higher per capita state and local taxes.
