Total Births and Births to Unmarried Mothers

- Unmarried mothers now account for over 30 percent of all births.
- Between 1960 and 2000, the share of births to unmarried mothers increased from 3 percent to almost 29 percent.
- Since 2000, the rate of births to unmarried mothers has continued to increase, and in 2006 stood at 31.6 percent.
