Applied Forecaster
- Application of quantitative research methods to the management of governmental programs.
- Effective communication of research results is essential.
- Specific positions may involve program-effectiveness evaluation, performance measurement, policy impact analysis, information systems development, small area analysis, short-term forecast analysis, long-range forecast development, contract development, liaison with user groups, and conferring with other state and federal agencies on research and funding.
- Typical disciplines include demography, economics, and geography. Some positions require specialties in geographic information systems, survey design, and econometric modeling.
Budget Assistant to the Governor
- Prepare fiscal analyses and budget recommendations relating to one or more state agencies;
- Review and analyze budget and other fiscal requests submitted by state agencies;
- Make recommendations to the Governor concerning the cost and effect of fiscal/policy proposals related to the budget, proposed legislation, and management initiatives;
- Monitor program performance and assist state agencies in budget implementation;
- Respond to inquiries on budget and fiscal issues;
- Represent the agency in presentations to the Governor and legislative committees.
Executive Policy Advisor to the Governor
- Work with senior policy staff and agency directors on issues of short- and long-term significance;
- Develop, analyze, and review the Governor's legislative initiatives, proposed legislation by executive agencies, and bills passed by the Legislature for the Governor's signature;
- Communicate with constituents and stakeholders.
State Financial Consultant
- Serve in a consulting role to state agencies in support of statewide level budgeting, accounting, reporting, policies and financial systems;
- Manage, develop, and coordinate projects;
- Provide statewide training programs concentrating on financial and administrative systems, state policies, regulations, and procedures governing operations;
- Develop, revise and maintain the state accounting policies;
- Prepare the state's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and other statewide reports;
- Supervise or lead professional staff.
Information Technology Applications Specialists
- Perform analysis, consulting, design, programming, maintenance, and/or support for major applications, support products, projects, multi-functional databases or database management systems that impact multiple business units or functions;
- Responsible for multiple applications of moderate size and complexity to large, major applications vital to program delivery;
- Understand the perspective of a senior businessperson and be conversant in the customer's business language;
- Serve as a technical mentor and coach to others;
- Serve as a project leader as needed.
Information Technology System Specialists
- Perform system design, acquisition, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem resolution;
- Consult on tasks for complex systems, projects, or operational problems impacting a region, geographical grouping of offices/facilities, or multiple business units with multiple business functions;
- Evaluate complex system needs and exercise discretion in approaches and techniques applied;
- Possess advanced technical knowledge as well as understand the customer's business from the perspective of a senior businessperson and is conversant in the customer's business language;
- Integrate new technology and improve business practices;
- Serve as a coach and technical mentor to others;
- Serve as a team or project leader as needed.
