Traffic fatality rates in Washington
compared to the national average Fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled,  1980-2007

Rates are per million vehicle miles traveled. The number of fatality and serious injury collisions is larger on state highways, but the collision rate is higher on county roads.

Washington's total highway fatality rate is lower than the national average. Wahington's state highways have a lower fatality rate than local roads.
