Indicator 2: Percent of Washington Commuters Who Drive Alone

Measure a: Drive Alone Comparisons: US, Washington, Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Program Worksites (percent of commuters)

Description:

Drive Alone Comparisons: US, Washington, Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Program Worksites (percent of commuters)

Commute Trip Reduction site data are from the Washington State Department of Transportation's Commute Trip Reduction Survey. These data represent major employers (with more than 100 full-time workers) in nine counties. The CTR Program covers an estimated 25 percent of commuters in the most populous counties where it operates (Clark, King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, Whatcom, Yakima). US and Washington State estimates for 1990 and 2000 are from the decennial census; data for 2001 to 2005 are from the American Community Survey.

Washington State commuters continue to be less likely to drive alone compared to the US averages. The percentage of Washington Commuters that drive alone declined in 2005, as did the percentage of drive-alone commuters in CTR program worksites.
