Message from the Governor
I was honored to have the opportunity to travel around the state this fall and listen to the priorities of our state’s residents. I was pleased to find out that the values I learned from my mom — such as opportunity and quality of life for all citizens — are the same values held by the people I met. An education system that families can rely on, an economy that offers opportunities for family-wage jobs and high-quality health care that families can afford will help us all reach these values.
I also heard that citizens value safety for their families and their communities. People want to be safe as they go about their daily lives, and they want to know that vulnerable children and adults are being cared for in a safe environment.
Washingtonians want to be sure that the future of the state is secure. We must save wisely so we can respond to future needs and ensure that our children will live in a strong, vibrant Washington.
My 2008 supplemental budget reflects my values and the values of the people of our state. Targeted investments will make our communities safer, and I save money to make our future more secure. These steps, combined with the programs initiated in my 2007–09 biennial budget, will build a better future for Washington families.
